Architect fee calculator for France
Choose the type of project, the mission and the planned cost of the works: the calculator gives a fee range excluding and including VAT, based on prices published in 2026.
How the estimate is calculated
The calculator uses the ranges published by the trade's pricing guides in October 2026. They are not official rates: architects' fees in France are free and negotiable.
| Project, full mission | Under €100,000 | €100,000–250,000 | Over €250,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| New house | 13–15% | 9–12% | 8–10% |
| Extension, extra storey, major renovation | 12–16% | 10–14% | 9–12% |
| Interior fit-out (interior architect) | 10–15% | 7–12% | |
For a permit-only mission the calculator uses a fixed fee: €1,500–4,000 excl. VAT for a house (€3,000–6,000 above €300,000 of works), €1,500–3,500 for an extension and €1,500–4,000 for a renovation.
Amounts including VAT add 20%. A reduced rate can apply when the mission includes supervising renovation works on a home more than two years old.
For an individual building below 150 m², the part of the mission up to the building permit must be charged as a fixed fee.
Refining the estimate with the architect
- The cost of the works matters most: ask the architect to check it from the first sketch.
- Complexity raises the rate: sloping sites, old buildings, protected areas, small and intricate projects.
- The mission changes everything: without site supervision the fee drops sharply, but you coordinate the builders.
- Other studies (surveyor, soil study, engineers) are not included.
The architect fees guide explains what each mission covers, and the contract guide the clauses to check.
